Do not fear the devil

The devil is a serpent who whispers lies and a lion who is ready to pounce. This means we should expect to be in spiritual battles. This reality should make us cautious, but not afraid! And here are 5 reasons why…

1. We wear God’s armour

God has not left us weak and defenseless against the devil. He gives us his armour to wear. In Ephesians 6:10-20 we are told that God has given us his armour with the express intention that this will enable us to stand against the devil and his lies. So put on the armour of God, and stand firm!

2. The Cross

Colossians 2:15 proclaims that Jesus has disarmed the powers and authorities of this world through his death on the cross. In fact, they have been made into a “public spectacle.” A foe that has been disarmed is a foe that is weak. If you feel like you’re in the middle of a spiritual battle, run to the cross and rest assured that this foe has no hold over you.

3. We are united to the Victor

In Genesis 3 the devil tempted Adam and Eve, and they both gave in to his lies. Is this then the destiny of all of humanity? Will we forever give into the devils lies? Yes, and no. Alone we will, but Christians are no longer alone! The devil tried to tempt Jesus in Luke 4, but he failed!!! Christians are united with Jesus, and thus we are united to his victory over the devil. Adam and Eve faced the devil’s temptation and lost. Jesus faced it and won! Alone we are a loser, but with Jesus we are united to the victor!

4. The devil will be thrown into the fiery lake

The deceiver may seem strong. At times he may even feel unstoppable. But none of these feelings are true. He is weak and he will be stopped. He roams the earth at this present moment, but he will not roam free forever. We know the devil’s end because Scripture declares it to us. In Revelation 20:10 we are told that the deceiver will be thrown into the burning lake of sulphur and will never leave it. He is not unstoppable.

5. Nothing can separate us from the love of God

Some Christians walk through life not thinking very much about the spiritual dimensions around us, they need to be more aware of what is going on. But others, walk through life terrified that the devil could snatch them away from the love of God. If you are the latter, then hear this truth and rejoice:

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:38-39

Here is a wonderful song to help tune your heart in these wonderful truths…
